Quality Control. Nov. 5th, 2009 @ 05:57 pm
Stay away from Sansa MP3 players.  This is the second one to die on me within a month of me purchasing it.

Top notch quality. Oct. 28th, 2009 @ 08:56 am

Should I be proud or sad that I recognize 80% of the characters based on silhouettes alone D;

Everything takes time. Oct. 8th, 2009 @ 12:04 am

I quit Aion already it would seem, I attempted to play it after having some friends that I missed gaming with talk about playing it with me, I decided to play a Cleric (I love healing, its a fact).  And started leveling, after 2 hours of personal investment I was level 5!  ... they were all somewhere around level 20ish, I started playing the game to play with them but their already way past where I am... just no drive to catch up now that its been 2 weeks since then...  WoW is still kind of on the side, but I'm hoping I can be borish with it and have my roommate find someone more interested in being his arena partner.  Irony how he always calls me a nerd.

Getting back to life though, I had someone recognize me as a graphic designer today just from all the doodling they always see me doing whenever I have a free minute here or there, and commissioned me to make a design for their humane kennel that's located a few towns over.  Nothing fancy, just something to put on a business card or stationary.  They wanted a husky's face being held by two hands ala the apple from the twilight book cover; so I played around with a few sketches, and I like the one where I have him looking up at you, it's amazing what perspective can do sometimes.

Finally getting myself in shape mentally, I always sit around complaining about how I'm never motivated enough to do anything, but thats because things take time, and I always go for instant gratification with projects.  I've been working on a few lately and have accepted that in order for things to become good, I have to potentially invest months into them, if not longer.  I just hope I have the integrity to follow through with what I'm starting.  No half finished project this time please...

Something nice in the mail. Sep. 27th, 2009 @ 08:37 pm
At first I thought my friend Leniah was just trying to get a rise out of me for her own entertainment; but I guess good things really do come to those that wait.

Ends up it was in my junk mail folder, I guess that's not too suprising knowing Sony, but after getting this new digicam, I have a bit more faith in them as a franchise.

Speaking of things related to my Digicam again, we went paintballing again. I wore one of my favorite shirts, which was a terrible, terrible idea. Regardless the day was a lot of fun, the group we play with tend to bunker themselves far too easily, so it makes flanking far too enjoyable and easy, now to just look through my E-triggers manual and figure out how to set it to different firing modes so I quit going automatic. We're paintballing next time on Oct. 10th. Going to get a jersey and some pants at that time so I can look the part.

In the mean time, heres the way I normally look; and yes, my hand is always cel shaded like that.

Bang bang! Your Beautiful! Aug. 29th, 2009 @ 05:27 am
Something I've always wanted, but never been able to decide upon; has been a digital camera.  A week ago I went hiking with some friends up to the top of one of the local Mountains, Mary's Peak.  It made me realize just how much I enjoy nature.  Along the way I took a couple pan photos, but haven't actually been able to get them off the camera's quite as of yet, but there are some pictures in a friends Picasa album and a Facebook Album.  After the trip I started shopping around for one and found myself quite taken with the Sony Dsc-hx1.  What with another anime convention coming up soon I figured it'd be nice to have a good camera on hand; so I ordered it off of Amazon.Com.  With any luck I'll get my orc warrior to 80 soon to appease my roommate, so I can feel productive with my time :3  Now to just find a camping partner...

Mmm... Aug. 15th, 2009 @ 06:45 am

http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/

Do I even need to say anything?  They updated the website incase you haven't checked it in a few days, gotta say, it just keeps looking better and better.  It's just like FFXI in a lot of respects, but it looks like they've learned a lot from the predecessor and taken some steps to improve upon it.  Now to just get into the beta and start doing some social networking to get everyone I know to play on the same server, not that that should be particularly hard what with server names being the exact same as 11.
Also mithra Miqo'te look interesting, or at least the example one does, whats with the eeeeyyyes.  All the other races look pretty cool.  I wonderrrrrrr if the people of windurrrrrrrrstaru Gridania will have massive speech impedimentarrrrrrrrrus.

Aug. 6th, 2009 @ 02:44 am
Oh right, a blog, what to update about... I just found out that their doing Utawarerumono OVAs? That was pretty cool.  Started playing WoW again to level an orc warrior to 80 to do arena with my soon to be roommates, but started leveling my alliance priest as well since tier 9 is so hot (potential cosplay material in the near future, damn you for selling out so quickly blizzcon tickets).  With that being said I'm moving out... Uh... dunno what else to say :o  Learning japanese and how to play the guitar, pew pew.

Hey Jemusu~ Jul. 5th, 2009 @ 08:01 am
About 8 months ago you suggested I pick up a few books to learn japanese with, I'm going to go ahead and buy them finally. Not really sure why I didn't pick them up yet, they've always been at the back of my mind, popping up every month or so as a "Oh yeah!" moment.

You suggested I pick up the "Minna no Nihongo 1" book for getting to about JP4-ish level; as well as the "Honyaku: English Translation and Grammatical Notes" part that goes with it as well. I'm guessing both of them don't have a lot of things I fill in that I'd have to worry about someone else having already done? I plan on picking up the work book as well, just because that usually helps a bit for me. I was looking at getting them off of Amazon.com if you don't have any other suggestions :o

Thanks for any suggestions or advice you might have =)

Unable to Relate. Jul. 2nd, 2009 @ 09:15 am
Yesterday I went to go eat out with my parents, I tried to explain THE GAME to my father because someone mentioned it when walking past me to their friend and I remembered it. Aside from my obvious reaction of FFFFFFffff- upon hearing it, I explained what it was, and why you can never really win at it, just make sure someone else loses before you do.

It seemed pretty straight forward, my mother thought it was hilarious. Skip forward to today. My dad tries to tie it into how they had "the game" back in his day, but it was something else, goes on about how there is some wrestler named Triple H whos catch phrase is something about the game and has been saying it for 10 years now, and then ultimately ends up spinning the conversation into a 15 minute conversation about spirituality and how life is a game and you can bypass the game by transcending to the next plane of consciousness etc. It always hurts when he tries to relate to something like this, the last time he tried doing it he started going on about how I cosplay and how back in his day, dressing like a hippy was pretty out there as well. Then he tries to tie it into a statement about how cosplaying has a really deep spiritual meaning (since when?) and started talking about how it ties into a higher meaning and ends up with me being stuck in a car for 10 minutes listening to him go on about spirituality and ascension to higher thought.

I hope that if there is a generation gap like this between my children and I, I realize soon enough not to try to relate in this sense. Then again, for anyone who has been following this blog long enough, you'll remember previous posts regarding our inability to understand each other. (Yelling out that I have herpes infront of girls I knew, and a similar stunt regarding to me as the King of the Elves to make me look good anyone? Its a very prestigious title!)

Clammin' Jun. 28th, 2009 @ 06:48 am
I went to the coast with some friends today to go clamming, and while we arrived a bit too late to be quite as effective at it as one might normally hope, we had a lot of fun. Lisa dug up a Sea-ntipede, which scared the living bejesus out of me. I didn't know that those were in the sand, and im deathly afraid of anything that I think might be poisonous, which I know for a fact centipedes are.

Regardless; we dug up a ton of clams, went to the Seafest at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, ate at Mo's (Clam Chowder of course for anyone who recognizes the franchise) and overall had a good time all around I beleive =). One note though, sleep deprivation and me driving aren't a good combo, while I'm a sound driver, I had trouble focusing when I'm fatigued, no suprise there. My little sister screamed "breaks" because there was a car a ways up the road that had come to a very slow speed, and I wonder how much longer it would have taken for me to see it, we were going around a corner with a hill in the middle so I couldn't see around it as soon as she could, so I wonder if that's why I didn't notice it as quickly as well. Regardless I had to put the breaks on a fair bit, since the van is old, weighs a ton and has poor breaking capabilities. I just wonder if I might have actually rear ended the guy in front of me if she hadn't called it.

P.S. The sun burned off my beautiful moon tan! Now my skin is going to turn a nice darker shade, which makes me look more attractive while also weakening the elastin in my skin so I'll look terrible when I get older with hanging skin D;

Wait, this is Background Music?! Jun. 24th, 2009 @ 06:23 am

Oh dear god, if Umineko no naku koro ni is only half as good as its background music I'm listening to right now, then it's probably going to be new favorite anime, replacing... Higurashi no naku koro ni... funny how things work out like that...

For those who aren't familiar with the series (not that I am particularly) It's another mind trip anime based around things that shouldn't be possible actually happening, I won't go too in depth with it, but after reading up on it, I'm looking forward to it more than ever now, shame I read those spoilers too D;

Skip up to about 2 minutes, 10 seconds in if your one of those crazy people that can't stand things with techno roots.

Artistic Liberty. Jun. 19th, 2009 @ 03:11 am
It's fun how small things can make up such a large portion of what you think about. Looking back at how my lifestyle has changed the past few years its relieving to see that, while it might be slow to happen, I do tend to progress along at a decent rate, I've finally shown interest in going to college, Videogames (especially MMO's) have turned backburner for the time being, and while I do very much look forward to some of the new ones coming out, I hardly think they'll be life controlling like I allowed to happen in the past. While I don't think its past me to get stuck in an mmo again like that, I'm guessing I've finally gotten a well rounded enough circle of hobbies to keep myself relatively safe; with the one exception of paintballing being lacking from my repuituore(sp?) of activities.

Real life has been going reasonably well, I sat down and actually thought about what my yearly income is after my most recent raise (about a week ago) and found myself to be making about 21,000$ a year. That's more than enough to cover all my expenses and goof around with hobbies, but really, I know it's not even close to what my potential could be. I want to go into a Digital Arts Major, even right now where I'm making enough money to cover myself and most of the things I show interest in, my life feels relatively bland, something is missing. I know that there is a certain bit of foreclosure I need to go to college to get. And the local (real) college about 40 miles from where I am offers an incredible opportunity with a very strong course setting for my desired field. And while going there would put me into a pit of student debt, somehow I don't think I'll really mind that much, considering how much of my money I actually spend on myself right now, I might as well have a student debt anyways *shrug*.

Considering possible cosplay choices for Komoricon up in Portland in the mean time, if anyone actually knows Final Fantasy 2(4); please make a suggestion, I'm leaning towards Kain with a Neon Blue Highlight w/ Brown instead of Purple and Yellow, but Cecil is also one of my favorites. Need to buy a Wacom Tablet so I can show potential rough drafts.
